Floor Performance Information

Everyone has their own opinion of how a floor should feel when walked on. The TJ-Pro™Rating system is designed to identify the products and other components that will contribute to your floor design.  The TJ-Pro Rating system can evaluate factors that contribute to floor performance materials, installation methods, even customer expectations and develop relative performance ratings. Varying the components and developing a relative performance rating gives you options for enhancing the floor's performance. You can also compare the cost efficiency of various flooring options.

Using the TJ-Pro Rating system, you can select various floor assembly components and options to produce a relative rating number (Performance Value) for the floor assembly. Usually, the preferred Performance Value is between 25 and 60.

When applied to floor performance, the TJ-Pro Rating system considers many different criteria such as floor vibration and sheathing.

Weyerhaeuser® has identified exact rating categories in the TJ-Pro Rating system. The following table provides an estimate of the percentage of the population's opinion of each rating category:

In the table above, the general public has the following opinions about a floor assembly with a Performance Value of 45:

  • 84 percent find it Good to Excellent
  • 9 percent find it Marginal
  • 7 percent find it Unacceptable

With the TJ-Pro Rating system, you can describe not only a Weyerhaeuser product, but other components contributing to the assembly, such as strapping types or ceiling finishes. Varying the components and developing relative performance ratings gives you options for enhancing the floor's performance.

Also, TJ-Pro Rating provides comparison values that are available on the All Solutions tab of the Output report

The comparison cost value is based on the volume of floor joist (per square foot) in your floor assembly.

If the decking material selected has a spacing rating that is less than the design joist spacing then the design will fail with the message “Span rating for selected sheathing is less than design on center spacing.” In order to correct this error, go back to the Floor Performance tab and reselect a decking material that matches or exceeds the design on center spacing of the joist
